Burn Scars and Late-Season Fires in Kazakhstan

This true-color image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite shows several large fires burning in the steppes of Kazakhstan (bottom and center) as well as smaller, scattered agricultural fires (top). All active fires are marked with red dots (or outlines in the high-resolution images). The image was acquired on September 21, 2002.
