The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this image of a dust storm over Egypt on October 4, 2009. The pale plume of dust sweeps northeast over the Mediterranean Sea. The desert between the Nile Delta, the vivid green area on the right side of the image, and Libya, just beyond the left edge of the image, is a frequent source of dust storms.
Twice-daily images of northern Egypt are available from the MODIS Rapid Response System.
