Fires Along the Adriatic Coast

On July 17, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this natural-color image of wildfires burning along the coasts of Croatia and Montenegro at the height of tourist season. Aided by favorable weather, firefighters managed to turn back one of the blazes in Croatia before it reached Split, the nation’s second-largest city.
