Fires are scattered across central Brazil, from the Amazon Rainforests to the north of the image to the purplish-looking wetlands at lower left. This true-color image was acquired on October 23, 2002, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer on the Terra satellite. Fire detections are marked with red dots.
