Smoke from fires in eastern Russia is wafting out over the Sea of Okhotsk, reaching as far as the Kamchatka Peninsula (right). This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image was acquired on September 17, 2002, by the Aqua satellite.
