Fires in the Northern Rockies

Fires across the Northern Rockies continued to burn on August 21, 2003. This image of the dozens of large fires (marked in yellow) was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite. The lake in the top left quadrant of the image is Flathead Lake in northwest Montana.
