Fires in Utah
July 11, 2003

On July 11, 2003, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite captured this image of two widely spaced fires burning in Utah. The fire (marked in red) to the east of the Great Salt Lake (upper left) is the Farmington Fire, which was about 1,800 acres and 50 percent contained as of July 14. To the south, on the Colorado Plateau west of the Colorado River, the Bulldog Fire was more than 22,000 acres and only 15 percent contained.
