Wildfires continue to scorch thousands of acres in Oregon. This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from July 17, 2002, shows numerous fires (red dots) burning throughout the state. The increasing number and continuing growth in the state’s wildfires has led the government to offer 650 Army soldiers as temporary firefighters to the state, according to news reports.

Please note that the high-resolution scene provided here is 500 meters per pixel. For a copy of the scene at the sensor's fullest resolution, visit the MODIS Rapid Response Image Gallery.
