Dry thunderstorms continue to pass through Oregon, providing little relief for firefighters battling the state's 16 large wildfires. This Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from July 25, 2002, shows smoky skies over much of the state, and numerous active fires (red dots) were detected. More than 260,000 acres are ablaze across the state, and 61 new fires were reported across Oregon and Washington on July 25 alone.
