Several wildfires have burned in Russia’s Sakha Republic since late July 2017. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of thick smoke streaming from the cluster of wildfires on August 8, 2017. NASA satellites have observed plumes of smoke from these fires pushing many hundreds of kilometers east across Siberia toward the Pacific Ocean.
