This roughly three-and-a-half-minute video explains how Earth's magnetosphere protects us from the fury of the Sun and is essential in allowing Earth to develop into a habitable planet. The video goes in-depth about how Earth's magnetosphere has shielded its atmosphere, in contrast to Mars, which has no magnetosphere and lost its atmosphere to the solar wind billions of years ago. It also gives information on the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission, which investigates how the Sun's and Earth's magnetic fields connect and disconnect, explosively transferring energy from one to the other.
