First Stars: Redshift

Since the first stars formed more than 13.4 billion years ago, their light has stretched with the expansion of space, becoming dimmer and redder over time. The James Webb Space Telescope is designed to detect the very dim light in the red and infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
