Fires along Lena River near Yakutsk

Fires continue to burn along the banks of the Lena River in eastern Siberia, and in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from July 30, 2002, a large smoke plume is acring around to the southeast. At the left edge of the image, several fires (red dots) were detected by MODIS as well.
