Numerous fires (red dots) are burning near Yakutsk, Russia, along the Lena River. Fires have been burning off and on since may, and are probably related to agricultural activities like land clearing. This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on August 1, 2002.
