On April 1, 2008, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite detected a handful of smoky fires in Victoria, Australia, near the border with New South Wales. Locations of fires are outlined in red. Most of the fires were not detected by Terra MODIS, when it passed over the area a few hours before.
