Forest fires continue to rage in Portugal, which is suffering through a multi-year drought. This image from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite was captured on July 20, 2005, and it shows actively burning fires marked in red. A handful of fires is burning in northern Portugal around the city of Porto, while two large fires are burning at either end of the Serra da Estrela mountains in the central part of the country.
