June 27, 2005

On June 27, 2005, the Southern Nevada Complex Fire was still raging in Clark and Lincoln Counties in Nevada. Other fires were burning in Utah and Arizona, as well. This infrared-enhanced image of the region shows vegetation in bright green, naturally bare ground in tan and pink, and burned area in reddish-brown. The bright pink spots within the red fire perimeters show actively flaming portions of the fire. This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite.
