Scores of fires (red dots) burned across the Indonesian island of Sumatra on September 23, 2007, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite passed over head and captured this image. The fires may be a mix of intentional agricultural fires, and accidental fires that got out of control.
