NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope marks 35 years in orbit in 2025. Since its launch and deployment in April 1990, Hubble’s mission has rewritten astronomy textbooks with its powerful observations of our universe.
Hubble’s optimal position above the atmosphere, in low-Earth orbit, gives it an unobstructed view of the cosmos. From planets in our own solar system to galaxies billions of light-years away, Hubble’s iconic images remain a scientific and cultural asset for the whole world.
Thanks to astronaut servicing missions and teams of talented engineers on the ground, Hubble continues to operate in good health decades after launch. With its unique ability to observe in ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light, Hubble is a valuable, complementary teammate to missions like the James Webb Space Telescope and the upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.
In 2025, we’ll celebrate Hubble’s milestone anniversary with breathtaking new images, videos, educational materials, interactive web apps, and more. Check back throughout the year as we continually release event dates, products, and activities, and follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and X, or use the hashtag #Hubble35.
