Perseverance Rover Path Animation — October 2026 Update

This animated orbital-map view shows the route NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover has taken from time of its 2021 landing to Oct. 11, 2026 — the day it broke the off-world driving record previously held by the agency’s Opportunity rover. As of that date, Perseverance has driven over 28 miles (45 kilometers).

Since it landed on the Red Planet in 2021 to search for signs of ancient life, NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover has driven farther, faster than any vehicle ever has on the surface of another world.

On Oct. 11, its odometer reached 28.10 miles (45.22 kilometers), rolling past the record of 28.06 miles (45.16 kilometers) by NASA’s Opportunity rover (2004-2018). And Perseverance has covered the ground in about 5½ years, compared to almost 15 for its predecessor.
