GOODS Galaxy Sequence in Time: Near to Far

This video scrapbook, assembled from a series of Hubble Space Telescope photographs, shows how galaxies evolve over time. The sequence begins with a small clump of stars that existed when the universe was less than 1 billion years old and ends with a disk galaxy that existed when the universe was nearly 11 billion years old. Light from these faraway galaxies traveled for billions of years to reach Earth. Therefore, these snapshots, taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys, depict galaxies that lived billions of years ago.
