Aleutian Von Karman Vortices

As air flows over and around objects in its path, spiraling eddies, known as Von Karmanvortices, may form. The vortices in this image were created when prevailing windssweeping east across the northern Pacific Ocean ecountered Alaska's Aleutian Islands.

This image was acquired by Landsat 7’sEnhanced Thematic Mapper plus (ETM+) sensor.
