It’s one thing to look at a Hubble image. But have you ever heard one?

Through a process called sonification, scientists assign sounds to different elements of an image – like color and brightness. While this isn’t what space actually sounds like, a musical representation of an image’s information offers a new way to understand and interpret data.

With Hearing Hubble, you get to make your own sonification. Choose from 10 breathtaking Hubble views, then start your own symphony. You pick the instruments, scanning pattern, harmony, and scientific information you want to use to create your sonification! When you’re done composing, share your masterpiece on social media and with your family and friends.
