Amendment 71: New Opportunity: A.16 Cryosphere
A.16 Cryosphere solicits high-impact efforts focused on sea ice, ice sheets, and glaciers. The expectation is that proposed investigations will use the wealth of data from NASA satellites and airborne campaigns to address the most urgent and impactful topics in cryospheric science, as identified in the National Academy of Sciences Decadal Survey, Thriving on Our Changing Planet: A Decadal Strategy for Earth Observation from Space (2018), https://www.nap.edu/catalog/24938.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- Interactions between ice, ocean, atmosphere, and land, and their impacts on the Earth system
- Ice sheet stability, including observations of processes that govern stability and their representation in models
- Seasonal-to-decadal prediction of sea ice, ice sheets, and glaciers, with specific focus on Arctic sea ice
ROSES-2025 Amendment 71 releases A.16 Cryosphere as a new opportunity in ROSES-25. Mandatory Notices of Intent are due by October 16, 2026, and proposals are due December 4, 2026.
A briefing for proposers to this program element will occur approximately 6 weeks before the proposal due date. Teleconference information will be posted under "other documents" on the NSPIRES page for this program element.
