The Helio-STELLA is a spin-off from the STELLA project (Science and Technology Education for Land/Life Assessment). It uses spectrometers that can be built with low-cost components and a 3D-printed housing to introduce Earth and space science observation technologies.

By providing authentic hands-on learning experiences, it introduces learners to remote sensing, engages them in the scientific process, and encourages them to think analytically.

The Helio-STELLA Heliophysics Spectrometer Kit comes with documentation that includes parts, tools and supplies needed, software download information, preparation, and step-by-step build instructions.

Data was collected during the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse as a proof of concept. Users are encouraged to swap or add their own sensors to explore and better understand the Sun and planetary space weather effects.
