This video animation illustrates how astronomers believe star formation began inside a molecular cloud in the satellite galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud. The video shows how first-generation stars form and carve out bubbles of ionized gas, which expand to eventually give the Tarantula Nebula its complex appearance.
